'Hacking Democracy' every Tuesday in February

How will you fill all the time left in your life now that the Steelers won the Super Bowl? MESH is pleased to announce the MESH Film Series. Over the next few months MESH will be screening politically and patriotically themed DVDs. We will be showing serious but relatively unknown movies in a comfortable environment. It should be a fun and interesting way to MESH with your fellow members and have some good conversations.

Hacking Democracy DVD

The first movie will be HBO’s Emmy-nominated Hacking Democracy, the story of how Bev Harris, a Seattle grandmother, became one of the nation’s leading voting machine activists. She didn’t go looking for it, it found her, and how she responded makes her a true American patriot. MESH will show Hacking Democracy every Tuesday in February at 7:30.

“This documentary, first broadcast on HBO in 2006, exposes the dangers of voting machines used during America's mid-term and presidential elections. Electronic voting machines count approximately 90% of America's votes in county, state and federal elections. It follows the investigations of a team of citizen activists and, yes, hackers as they take on the electronic voting industry, targeting the Diebold corporation. Hacking Democracy uncovers incendiary evidence from the trash cans of Texas to the ballot boxes of Ohio, exposing secrecy, hackable software and election officials rigging the presidential recount. Ultimately proving our votes can be stolen without a trace, Hacking Democracy culminates in the famous Hursti Hack – a duel between the Diebold voting machines and a computer hacker from Finland – with America's democracy at stake.” – hackingdemocracy.com
